Pakistan Awami Tehreek will stage sit-ins in over 300 cities on the polling day in the country and they would be held away from the polling stations. The mass contact drive has also been launched. Door-to-door campaign would soon get underway against the present electoral system. Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri announced a comprehensive anti-elections policy in a countrywide workers’ convention held a few days ago. The thousands of people would attend these sit-ins on the Election Day to record their rejection and disapproval of the electoral system. PAT has devised a strategy to persuade the people who did not vote to join its sit-ins.
These views were expressed by Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, central Secretary Information of PAT, in a statement here today. He further said that the likely results of the upcoming polls would be the repeat of the previous elections with marginal change in which major interest groups would continue to hold sway on state’s resources and decision-making processes. He said that the elections of winning horses could not change the destiny of the people. He said that slogans of change would lose out to a combination of power and money and serve to further disappoint the nation. He said that PAT was an ideological party and could not compromise on principles.
The PAT Spokesman said that his party considered elections to be the best mode of bringing about change in the country but they should be held in a free, fair and transparent manner. He said that the present Election Commission did not have the capacity of holding free and fair elections. He said that electoral results would prove PAT right.
