The News: Qadri urges people to rise up against electoral system

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri on Saturday said two hundred powerful families had been violating the rights of 180 million people in the name of so-called democracy.

Addressing Central Working Council of Pakistan Awami Tehreek here, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said the elections had only changed governments but the exploitative, oppressive and cruel system, which had been sucking blood of the masses, had stayed intact. He said the system had kept the nation shackled for last 66 years.

Tahir-ul-Qadri said that analysts, political commentators, columnists and political leaders were now appreciating his point of view that he had expressed before the elections. He said no government ever formulated policies for the benefit of the nation because the electoral system through which they came into power was the real enemy of the people.

He said the people would have to rise against the incumbent electoral system.

Qadri said the nation’s destiny would not change through elections but the revolution was the only answer to the ills afflicting us. He said that revolution would change the system and lay the foundation stone for establishment of real democracy in the country.

PAT president Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Muhammad Irshad Tahir, Bashrat Aziz Jaspal, Jawad Hamid, Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, Zahid Javed and other leaders were also present.
