Pakistan Awami Tehreek Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has said that the basis of terrorism, lawlessness, corruption and price hike is the current electoral system. He said that oppression committed against the masses, plunder of state institutions and unemployment had its roots in the voting system, adding that this system of elections was tailor-made for the elite and not for the farmers, the poor, traders and the labourers. He said that this system favoured those who alternated each other in power for last 67 years in different guises. He further stated that the masses did not get to benefit from it in any way as it was structured to protect the vested interests of the ruling elite. He said that the countrywide public demonstrations on May 11 would prove to be seminal point of the revolution. He warned that if the workers were hindered from staging these demonstrations, the protest rallies would turn into revolution He said that the people of Lahore would be witness to a new chapter in annals of history
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur expressed these views while addressing Workers Convention organized by PAT Wagha Town chapter the other day. Zulifqar Chaudhry, Hafiz Ghulam Farid, Chaudhry Afzal Gujjar, Ghulam Rabbani Tamour, Ayesha Shabbir, Tariq Mughal, Shifat Mughal, and Habibullah Butt were also present at the occasion.
PAT Secretary General said that the rulers who always came into power through back-door channels conspired against the armed forces and tried to harm the national security institutions. He said that they promoted such people whose forefathers were against Pakistan. Warning those who were spewing venom against the armed forces, he said that these elements should not understand that army just consisted of half a million personnel. Rather 180 million people stood by their armed forces through thick and thin. He said that time for end of their nefarious activities was near as people would soon holding you accountable for all your acts.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur asked as to how much more time did the rulers who had been coming into power a number of times need to put Pakistan on track. He said that the agenda of those who came into power through fake elections was that an attack be launched on the armed forces in the name of survival of democracy. He said that both political parties were aware that if the institution of the armed forces was weakened, their play of musical chairs would continue unabated.
Speaking at the occasion, Chaudhry Afzal Gujjar, President of PAT Lahore chapter, said that PAT’s awareness campaign was underway awakening the people from slumber. He said that PAT workers were urging people not to sit idle but demand their rights. He asked the people to join protest demonstrations of PAT to get back their constitutional, legal, political and democratic rights instead of sitting at their homes. He said that the government that came into being on May 11 last year did not offer people anything except terrorism, lawlessness, unemployment, price hike and poverty. He said that the rulers had now taken upon themselves to undermine the institution of the army under a carefully caliberated policy. He said that the armed forces were our asset, warning that we would not allow anyone to succeed in his conspiracy against the armed forces. He asked the forces to safeguard the national frontiers, saying that the people would protect the army and would be ready to sacrifice everything for the purpose.
MQI General Secretary of the Lahore chapter, Hafiz Ghulam Farid said that the so-called ruling elite had been making promises with the people for last four decades, adding that it was unfortunate that none of it was ever translated into reality. He said that promises would be implemented right after revolution. He said that we did not approve of such arbitrary laws as the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance. He said that only Mustafvi revolution would come about now putting Pakistan on the trajectory of socio-economic development.
