There is no democracy in Pakistan: Qadri

Chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri has proposed creation of 35 provinces based on the present administrative divisions. He was addressing protest rallies organised by PAT in 50 major districts of Pakistan including Lahore and Rawalpindi through video-link from Canada on Sunday.

He claimed that his political, constitutional and economic reforms programme was the panacea for all socio-economic, political, administrative, law and order, ethnic, sectarian, parochial and security problems confronting the country.

He said under his proposed green revolution, the entire nation would elect the President of Pakistan and the Federal government would have control over Defence, Foreign Affairs, Currency and Communication while other departments would be transferred to the 30 to 35 provinces and thousands of district and local governments across the country.

Dr Qadri said: "In Pakistan there is no democracy, there is a political dictatorship which has failed to implement various articles of the 1973 constitution relating to universal education, provision of jobs, health facilities, basic human rights, protection of life and property, equal economic opportunities, and above all devolution of power to the grass root level through local governments and councils for redressal of problems of masses at their door steps." In his one-hour address, Dr Qadri said the last year's General Elections had proved to be the worst rigged elections ever held in country's history.

"I had exposed the drama of the elections well in time during my historic Long March on Islamabad in January 2013 where I warned that elections without reforms would be unconstitutional," he thundered.

He contended that during one year of the new government in office terrorism has been on the rise, talks with the terrorists have failed but yet are our top of the agenda of the PM, while lawlessness, unemployment and poverty has also been on the rise.

Dr Qadri announced that he would arrive in Pakistan to lead the final phase of the revolution which will take place before the end of 2014 to replace a political system that protects the corrupt, criminals, dynastic politics, feudal lords and terrorists.

Meanwhile, PAT leaders alleged that the government resorted to petty tactics to deprive people of their democratic right to protest. Defying all odds, people responded positively to the call of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri and expressed their utmost confidence in his leadership by coming out of their homes despite his absence, they added.
