Holding rallies every party's democratic right: Altaf Hussain

He said he can't comprehend govt's moves against PAT workers.

LONDON (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said on Sunday that it is a democratic right of every party to hold rallies and public gathering, demanding stoppage of hurdles in the way of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers, Dunya News reported.

He said in a statement that the government is arresting PAT workers instead of those behind the Lahore tragedy.

MQM chief said that armed forces are conducting a military operation against terrorists while the government is busy crushing opponents through state power. He said he can’t comprehend these moves of the government.

The federal and Punjab government on Sunday finalized strict security plans including installing barriers on entry and exit points of the capital and imposing section 144 rendering people unable to gather. PAT workers are also disallowed from entering the airport to receive the chief.

Earlier, Interior Ministry imposed Section 144 at Benazir International Airport and its surrounding area ahead of the arrival of Tahirul Qadri.

According to police sources, entry into the airport premises carrying banners and placards would not be allowed while those coming towards airport would be arrested.

The sources added that more than 6000 policemen would be deployed to stop the Awami Tehreek workers from going to airport.

According to police, all these measures were adopted due to security threats.

Earlier on Saturday, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan imposed ban on holding any kind of rally or public gatherings in the federal capital, while ordering additional security on sensitive areas in the twin cities.
