ABBOTTABAD: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has asked all the four members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to resign forthwith so that they would not be able to take part in delimitations of forthcoming local government (LG) elections.
Addressing a gathering of Inqilab March at the Government Postgraduate College here on Thursday, he said that all political parties, except Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, had accepted that the May 2013 general elections were massively rigged that had damaged the credibility of the ECP.
He said the existing Election Commission was illegal as it didn’t have its head – the chief election commissioner.Dr Tahirul Qadri said that PAT was demanding formation of a national government for introducing reforms before the next general elections. He refused to accept the elections under existing ECP and termed it illegal. He began his speech by offering ‘fateha’ for those who were killed in protests over renaming of the province. He promised creation of Hazara province if PAT came into power.
He ruled out the impression that PAT had ended sit-in against the government at Islamabad and said that he had changed his strategy. “Our war against the government has started now and it would continue till ouster of the incumbent government and formation of the national government,” he said categorically.
The PAT chief said sit-in at Islamabad had changed the mindset of common citizens, who had been mobilised for real change in the country. NNI adds: PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri said that heended his over two-month long Islamabad sit-in to transform it into a countrywide movement.“The battle has not ended yet, rather it has begun now,” Qadri said while addressing the big public rally in Abbottabad. Responding to criticism on ending Islamabad sit-in, Qadri said that Islamabad sit-in was never ended.
