Says JIT formed by Punjab govt to probe Model Town killings is ‘murder of justice’
LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahirul Qadri said on Thursday that he would himself offer his arrest whenever the prime minister and Punjab chief minister, both of whom have been nominated in the FIR of Model Town killings, are arrested.
Speaking to media at his Model Town residence, the controversial cleric refused to accept the legality of the Joint Investigation Team formed by Punjab government to probe Model Town firing incident, saying the it was constituted with a purpose to let real culprits go scot free. Qadri claimed that the PML-N government has violated rules and regulations in formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe into Model Town tragedy.
“We consider the JIT as murder of the justice. It’s aimed at acquitting the real culprits and giving them a clean chit,” said the PAT chief. “Representation of Punjab Police is not acceptable. How can we accept it, as the police department is itself involved in murder of our workers. The government has illegally kept judicial commission’s report secret which is a proof that the rulers have been declared murders and culprits in the report,” he said. The JIT comprises murderers and supporters of the murderers with malicious intentions, he added.
