PAT has written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan against Zaeem Qadri, the spokesperson of the Punjab Chief Minister, on his violation of electoral laws. The PAT has maintained that under Section 86 of Cantonment Board Ordinance 2002, the spokesperson of the provincial chief executive who holds official position cannot participate in the electoral process. The fact remains that Zaeem Qadri addressed a public meeting in support of PML-N candidate in Ward No. 10 last night and thus misused his official position. The PAT has asked the Election Commission to proceed against Zaeem Qadri.
The letter has been sent to the ECP through courier service last night under the signature of PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. He said that earlier on, Federal Minister for Railways addressed the public meetings in Walton and Cantonment areas which constituted violated of electoral laws and code of conduct. He said that a written complaint was made to the ECP but no action has, so far, been taken on it. He said that now the government office holders are taking part in the electoral process at the behest of the Punjab Chief Minister and misusing official resources and status.
The PAT Secretary General said that the masses are being hampered from exercising their right to vote in a free and transparent atmosphere. He said that development funds are being spent as a bait to buy votes, which negates the requirements of fair and free elections. He demanded of the ECP to take action against the spokesperson of the Punjab Chief Minister for violation of electoral laws.
